Scarred for Life? Not with Aloe!

March 15, 2011 by We Love Aloe 40 Comments

Aloe. Nature’s way of soothing burns, reducing scars and even melting away stretch marks. There are many Aloe Vera gels, creams and ointments that can go a long way towards reducing the appearance of unsightly burns and scars.

How Does It Work?

Aloe Vera works by helping your skin cells regenerate and acts as a moisturizer. As a result, it can make your skin appear smoother and younger. The regenerated skin cells work to reduce the appearance of burns and scars. Since aloe also has antibacterial properties, it can be soothing which can prevent problems with healing. There are many active ingredients in the gel of the Aloe Vera plant and in the skin itself. Together, these can work to improve the look and feel of your skin. However, since Aloe Vera works to soften and loosen the skin, it doesn’t do well on older scars, but fresh scars, recent burn marks and stretch marks can become much less apparent through cell regeneration. It’s possible that the act of massaging the Aloe Vera into the skin can also stimulate the cells and reduce the appearance of scars.

Aloe Vera Products

One way to benefit from Aloe Vera is to purchase a plant and use the clear sap directly from the plant for scar reduction. However, as these plants are hard to find, that’s not practical solution. Instead, you can purchase lotions, creams and gels both online and in the store. However, it’s very important to read labels before purchasing and using these products. Some studies have suggested that Aloe Vera alone may act as a healing agent, but when coupled with certain preservatives that make it last longer, it’s less effective. These products use natural ingredients, including aloe. They can keep your skin nourished and healthy. And while they can’t prevent scarring, they can go a long way towards making scars less obvious, particularly in their early stages. If the product does cause any discomfort or irritation, discontinue its use immediately and consult a physician before finding another product. Some products that you may consider for different scars include:

  • Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera. This product is used to reduce acne and acne scars. It works by reducing redness and making skin smoother. It’s not greasy, but can dry skin out a little bit. It doesn’t have a fragrance and it helps prevent future breakouts. The breakouts can make your skin more even and fresher using all-natural products.
  • California Baby Aloe Vera Cream. This product can be used in your hair or on your skin to heal burns and scars. It can also be used to repair stretch marks. In some cases, it also works to repair dry skin and relieve the itch and burn of eczema and other skin problems.
  • Aloe Life Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Skin Gel. This product is made from whole leaves of the Aloe Vera plant. The sap is thickened with seaweed so it’s less-liquid. You can put it on your hair to reduce the itchiness in your scalp, but it can also be used to thicken and repair hair. More importantly, you can use it on burns, scars, scrapes and stretch marks. Wash your skin and apply it. The gel works by tightening your skin and regenerating the cells to induce repair.

Aloe Products for Women With Stretch Marks from Childbirth

Stretch marks are tiny, linear scars that occur most frequently when the skin is stretched quickly in a short amount of time and often appear on hips, below the belly button, arms and thighs. They often appear when people gain or lose large amounts of weight. One of the most common times for skin to appear is when a woman gets pregnant. When a woman has a baby, her skin is stretched a lot in a short amount of time. In most cases, this harms the skin’s elasticity because her stomach grows much bigger in a very short period of time, creating stretch marks. Aloe is one of the few products that can reduce the appearance of these marks by repairing the skin through regenerated skin cells. Basically, the plant collagen is absorbed into your skin. Although it can fix them best when they’re fresh and before they’ve turned red. Aloe Vera products are rich in natural nutrients and can heal and prevent skin damage. The best way to tackle and reduce stretch marks is removing them before they exist. When you first learn you’re pregnant, begin rubbing the Aloe Vera into your skin to encourage its youthful appearance and make it more elastic. Even after the scars are gone, you can continue using the product to keep your skin smooth and young-looking. One of the best Aloe Vera products for preventing and reducing pregnancy stretch marks is Bella B Tummy Honey Butter. By using it in the morning and at night, you can rub it deep into the layers of your skin so that your skin maintains elasticity and retains moisture. It contains all natural products, so it won’t harm you or your baby. Many women report liking the scent through the duration of their pregnancy and it’s very easy to apply.

You don’t have to live with scars from acne, accidents, burns, pregnancy or weight gain. It is possible to reduce the appearance of your scars and even make them fade completely. Aloe Vera products are natural and have been used for thousands of years. They are often inexpensive and can be found at local drug stores and grocery stores for under $10. Many of the products are versatile and can be used for multiple purposes. How can you say, “No” to that?

When I was 21 years old, my cousing sprayed a tanning solution on my left shoulder. It burned terribly. I knew I would have a permenant scaring all over my shoulder area. Someone advised me to use the Aloe Vera Plant. I rubbed the gel on my shoulder for a period of time and can honestly say, it worked. I have no scarring. It truly works, I hope it does for you, too.

I noticed this website said that it doesn’t work well on older scars which is a problem because the scars on my body are old(they’ve been there most of my life) but I use aloe Vera sap straight from the plant (my mom has dozens) so what else can I use ?

      Hi Jessica …

It is not true that it does not work for old scars BUT you need to do it a LOT LONGER the older the scar is. Everyday repeatedly … be patient … eventually it will heal. Take a before photo and then use the same camera and take another photo every 2 or so months. When the healing is SLOW it is easy to not notice it and give up because you do not think it is doing anything. But photos will show that there is improvement it’s just that you have gotten used to the gradual change and do not notice it.

In time the healing will be obvious … but depending on how large the scars and and how old they are you may need to keep applying the aloe vera gel for a LONG time.

It is good for skin in general so you have nothing to loose if it doesn’t work.

I know from past experience with BIG scars that have disapeared totally … be patient and consistent.

      Good luck …

Aloe can be found in almost every nursery in the USA. It can be invasive so it is best grown in a pot unless you want a whole garden full. It works great for minor burns the sooner you use it after a burn, the better. It is best to soak any burn in very cold water (not ice water but a few cubes won’t hurt) immediately after getting burned for at least 15 minutes then apply the aloe several times a day after gently washing and patting dry the area. If you live in areas that don’t get freezing weather You’ll find it in many of your neighbors gardens. The flowers are quite beautiful too.

      Hi Anirudh,

Using aloe to heal acne scars takes a bit of patience, but with daily application twice a day (at night and in the morning), you should begin seeing results anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. Especially because you are using straight aloe gel to eliminate the pimple scarring, which is not diluted but has maximum medicinal potential, you have a better chance of seeing quicker results than if you used a store-bought acne scar-fighting product that contained aloe.

The older you get, the more likely it is that you’ll start to
experience thinning and hair loss. Zinc absorption and
vitamin C intake could be synergistic. The Hair Transplant Network gives
an estimate of $4 to $8 per graft for a FUT procedure and $6 to $10 per graft
    for a FUE procedure.

In simple words, fashion illustration gives a freedom to the artist to put forward the fashion designs and ideas in front of the entire world.

Laughter, smiles and playfulness were the norm for his
photos, but it was not in fashion photography.
It’s nice that at least parts of society and media are recognizing that not all women are shaped the same
and we don’t all need to be a size 6 or smaller.

It is winter and water is ice-cold, you can make it luke-warm.

Spray roots and tips to speed hair growth and prevent split ends.
On the downside, the effectiveness of gotu kola as a treatment for hair loss lacks clinical evidence like many other herbs purported to prevent hair loss and stimulate
    hair growth.

I tried coconut oil on my face after hearing a friend talk about the wonders it works, but it made me break out terribly. I quit using it after a week. It’s been a few weeks now, and I cleared up all except for one bump, and it looks like a raised pore/pimple, but it doesn’t hurt. I noticed that now, since yesterday, the side of it looks like there’s a popped blood vessel in it. Do you think aloe could help it? I don’t know what to do…

Hi.. One day I went ice skating and the ice skates burned my skin near my ankles because I wasn’t wearing long socks and I had my jeans outside the skate. I didn’t do any treatment to my burns. So, they left me dark brown burn marks on my legs and its been 3 months thats ive had them. And I was wondering if by putting aloe vera gel would help? Because I really don’t want these burn marks.
