It’s been a few months since I was last sick, but during the winter season it happens way to often for my liking. Even though I had my tonsils removed years ago, I still get the venomous sore throat and bad cold like clockwork. It’s just awful, and I know that it’s not just me dealing with this curse. It’s not just a cold that can make your throat sore. It could be that you have a sore throat from breathing through your mouth, allergies, tonsillitis, inhalation of irritants, and/or pollen in the air. Whatever the reason for your uncomfortable sore throat, Aloe Vera can help make it better so you can go on with your life.
I like to dose myself with chamomile tea with lots of honey and lemon, but have been doing some research about other options. With everything I have learned about Aloe, I was not surprised to learn that it can help with this too. Aloe calms and soothes mucus membranes and uses it’s anti-inflammatory properties to help make that sore throat not so sore.

1. Take a teaspoon of sea salt in 1/4 cup Aloe Vera juice and 3/4 cup of very warm water. Just a little twist on the “normal” salt water gargle.
2. Take one tablespoon of mustard seed, combine with the juice of half a lemon, one tablespoon of salt, one tablespoon of clear honey, 1/4 cup Aloe Vera Juice, and 1 1/4 cups of boiling water. Leave the mixture covered for 15 minutes and then use as a gargle.
3. Add 1/4 cup of Aloe Vera juice and with honey and lemon to Chamomile tea. You can make the tea itself by adding 1 or 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile blossoms to boiling water to steep. If you already have Chamomile tea bags those work fine as well.
4. Make a tea by lightly crushing 5 fresh or dried Thyme leaves. Place in a cup and fill with a mixture of 1/4 cup of Aloe Vera juice and water cooled to just below boiling. Cover and leave to infuse for five minutes. Remove the leaves and use as a gargle or drink as a tea. Thyme has antiseptic properties that when combined with the soothing qualities of the aloe, would help greatly.
5. Betony is another herb that can help with a sore throat. It helps with inflammation and is an antibacterial, an antiseptic, and an astringent. If made into a tea adding Aloe Vera juice it can be used as a useful gargle. (Actually, drinking betony can cure diarrhea, which is the opposite of drinking great amounts of Aloe Vera.)
6. Take a small ginger root and slice it into thin coins. Place these into a small pot of water. Boil to make a tea. Add 1/4 cup of Aloe Vera juice, and the juice of 1/2 a lemon, and 3 tablespoons of honey to sweeten. This tea will also help to get your voice back if you have lost it.
7. Take 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup honey, and 1/4 cup Aloe Vera juice. Take one tablespoon every four hours or as needed for pain relief. Be wary of the apple cider vinegar, however, because it has the capability to erode the enamel on your teeth. Rinse your mouth with water to prevent this.
8. You could also just gargle with Aloe Vera juice two times daily.
